Have you ever saw a painting that attempted to capture the energy of an emotion? Usually this looks like a series of swirled colors and marks. I am not skilled at that – I have tried! However, one of my super hero powers is the ability to capture the essence of a person in a painting.
This is what I did with Essence. One weekend in March, the idea popped into my head and I decided to run with it. When I met a particular friend several years ago my first thought was, “Why is this woman so happy?” She always has a smile ready for you. Once I got to know her, I realized that she worked hard for her smile. That translated into yellow for me when thinking about this painting.
The final result is a bright, loose floral piece largely made of watered down yellow acrylic paint, watery black pencil, and black and white oil pastels.
